Welcome to the WOW Lab
The Workplace and Occupational Wellness (WOW) lab is committed to improving the lives and well-being of employees. We focus on tools and strategies organizations can employ to create and foster a happier and healthier workforce, and with focused attention on social relationships both in and out of the workplace, as we acknowledge the central role of relationships to individual well-being, regardless of where they are (e.g., work, home).

Taking an occupational health psychology (OHP) perspective and through the following lenses, this lab focuses broadly on areas such as improving individual health and well-being as well as family well-being and work-family experiences.
|
Positive social relationships at work and within one's personal life can promote healthy behaviors, affect physiological processes, reduce stress through the provision of social support, and buffer against poor outcomes associated with stress. Our lab focuses on promoting positive workplace social relationships and examines how the workplace can facilitate more positive interactions and relationships at home.

SupervisorsSupervisors play an essential role in shaping employee well-being, not only because they make decisions related to promotions and scheduling, but also because they can serve as a rich source of multiple types of support to employees. Supervisors' behaviors, attitudes, own health and well-being, and organizational context in which they work are all critical components as well, leading us to critical multi-level perspectives on employee health and well-being. Thus our lab considers the role of supervisors in employee health and well-being, as well as supervisor health and well-being.

Diversity Equity and InclusionIn recent decades there has been an increasing interest and initiatives geared towards supporting diversity equity and inclusion in the workplace. Unfortunately biases and stigma experienced in the workplace continue to undermine diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, as well as employee health and well-being. Our lab focuses on identifying and addressing sources of stigma and the processes to improve employee inclusion and lives, as well as the workplace context.
